"Middle of the Field"

                                 6 x 8
                    Acrylic on Cotton Panel
                            Framed

I saw these wild flowers from the road while driving up the Angel Fire Ski Road.  This road wound and wound and there was nothing but this bright patch.  Stopped by the side of the road and went wandering through 2 foot weeds to get to these spectacular little gems.

"Kokopeli"

                     18 x 24
             Acrylic on Canvas
                     $ 850

Sitting on the front porch of Casa Escondido in Chimayo, New Mexico, I created this Kokopeli (The God of Fertility) with the lovely view of the mountains in the background.   This trip was my first trip to paint in New Mexico and certainly turned out not to be the last.   Casa Escondida has been a fond place for several of the artists that I paint with.  This first trip was a true learning experience.   Composition and color mixing were among new things we learned.  This painting was actually an experiment in mixing the colors that are typical in New Mexico.

"Patio in Greece"

                               4 x 4
                          Miniature
                             SOLD
The sunshine in Greece is not unlike the sunshine in New Mexico!  Bright and clear, shining through the shadows of the trees.  I am in New Mexico now, getting lots of new painting material.  I have grown to love this state and the beauty it offers.  Karen and I are off to Taos today to see what kind of trouble we can get into in the galleries!  More of my miniatures are available at Random in Inwood Village, Dallas and at Rising Gallery in Dallas.

"The Jordan River"

                               10' x 12'
                                Mural
                             Baptistry
                Rightway Baptist Church
                         Dallas, Texas

I was commissioned to do this mural by Rightway Baptist Church in 2008.  I was privileged to know the Reverend Kevin Bush, pastor of Rightway, through a long time business association.  Little did I know that Kevin in addition to selling automobiles, was the leader of such a dynamic little jewel of a church in South Dallas.  My family and I were privileged to be at the unveiling and it was such a thrill!  When Kevin stood in the baptismal to baptize folks, he actually looked like he was standing in the Jordan River!  Just thinking about it, inspires me all over again!

My contribution to the challenge, Different Strokes from Different Folks.  I decided to do a little pen and ink and watercolor.  I love working in this medium.

The Virtual Paint Out (http://virtualpaintout.blogspot.com) really got me outside my box!  A fun exercise using Google Street View as a resource for traveling the world to find interesting subjects to paint.  Barcelona, Spain!  Wow!  The painting will be available at the upcoming MAC Membership Show in Dallas, Texas.

Field of Flowers

            16 x 20 Acrylic, Framed

Taos, New Mexico

                            16 x 20
                   Acrylic, Framed
                             $750

This is on the famous Ledeau Street in Taos, New Mexico.   There are lots of art galleries and many beautiful flowers.  These lavender flowers, mixed with a few hollyhocks are some of my very favorites and the way the sun shown on them, made them stand out even more.

Casa Escondida

Casa Escondida in Chimayo, New Mexico is full of charm and decorated in the traditional style of it's surroundings.  It was a beautiful setting for an artistic retreat, located just about 30 miles from Ghost Ranch.  True Georgia O'Keeffe country!

Study in Light and Shadow

I thought Los Alamos was dry and baron!  Much to my surprise on our drive through the Mountains of New Mexico, we came upon this beautiful forest with lots of contrasting greens. As the "Queen of Green" , I found this to be  a perfect example!

Gates of Chimayo

I really liked the shadows and light in this painting.  I recently realized that I look at all of my surroundings and see only shadows and light.  I guess that's the artist in me.  It could also be that I totally LOVE this part of our country.  I am truly inspired by the beauty of New Mexico. Painting is 16 x 20, framed, acrylic on canvas.

New Orleans Perspective

As I approached the front porch of the beautiful bed and breakfast on Canal Street in New Orleans, I  knew I was going to create these colorful flowers on canvas.  The innkeeper told us that almost the entire structure was under water after Katrina.  Hard to believe!

Fields of Bluebonnets

This is a continuation of the spectacular visit to "Bluebonnet" country. Those fields of wildflowers were just breathtaking!

Tuesday, April 14, 2009

These bluebonnets were on  the side of the road.  This was just the beginning.  There's more to come on this spectacular adventure!

Monday, April 13, 2009

Okay, I've got to begin to get serious about this blogging!  This is a 6 x 8 painting and is of some of the spectacular, yellow wildflowers along the road in South Texas.  Karen Rike and I kept looking for yellow among the bluebonnets and we found them!

Wednesday, April 1, 2009

These images are paintings in the Landscapes and Vistas Exhibition at the TVAA Downtown Gallery, Plaza of the Americas, April 1st through April 30th.   Three of my favorite locations. Texas Hill Country,  Big D and my beloved Georgia O'Keefe Country in New Mexico.

Pumba

Wanted to share one of my pet portraits with you.  You can view lots more on my website at www.suzymoritzfineart.com.  Portraits start at $150 for an 8 x 8. I paint them from a favorite photo.  If I can, I like to meet the pet.  When I paint the pets, I actually talk to them like Dr. Doolittle.  This Boston Terrier's name is Pumba and from what his mother tells me, he can be quite a "pistol"!

Chama River in the Fall

This is such a glorious spot....the Chama River in New Mexico. The photo was taken from the famous overlook on my birthday in October a couple of years ago. Since I have many paintings from the summertime, I wanted to capture the colors of the fall. So, I recently painted this one to remind me of Georgia O'Keeffe country. I love New Mexico, Georgia O'Keeffe and this particular vista. Enjoy the view!

The Animals Came Two by Two

This mural was done for Baily and Decker Gallinet on the occasion of their birth. The twins were truly a miracle to our family and this mural is one that I took great pride in creating. It's almost time for me to change them over to sports, since they are almost 3 years old. Just wanted to share this fun part of my journey with you all.

Aspens to Heaven

As Gail, Kathleen, Richard and I continued our walk on that bright Sunday morning in the glorious surroundings of Angel Fire, we came upon these giant Aspens and I knew when I stood beneath looking up to heaven that it would soon be put on canvas for all to enjoy!
